Hilton Lodge No. 2
History of Hilton Lodge No. 2

Simms, clothed with Masonic authority as a District Deputy Grand Master, returned to Savannah to live. On February 4th, 1866, he set up Eureka Lodge# 11, F. & A.M. Pythagoras Lodge No. 11
History of Pythagoras Lodge No. 11
Pythagoras Lodge No. 11 was officially chartered on March 29, 1875, under the leadership of the illustrious Louis B. Toomer, who became its first Worshipful Master. Brother Toomer, a distinguished businessman, civic leader, and politician, provided steadfast leadership and served the Lodge faithfully for more than twelve years, from 1875 to 1887.
From its humble beginnings, Pythagoras Lodge No. 11 has remained a beacon of light in the Savannah community. Throughout its long and storied history, the Lodge has drawn its membership from men of various walks of life—men who, despite numerous civic and professional responsibilities, chose to dedicate themselves to the tenets of Freemasonry. These brothers have consistently placed the service of others above self, working tirelessly to uphold the Masonic principles of charity, truth, and brotherly love.
The legacy of Pythagoras Lodge is reflected in its distinguished leadership. Among our most notable early leaders was Past Master Samuel H. Bryant, the Lodge’s fifth Worshipful Master, who guided the Lodge with wisdom and strength for fifteen years, from 1895 to 1910.
Pythagoras Lodge No. 11 is strengthened by the memory and contributions of many exemplary brothers, including:
Past Master Samuel H. Bryant, our fifth Worshipful Master, who served from 1895 to 1910.
Brother A.H. Gatson, father of Sophronia Tompkins, for whom Tompkins High School is named.
Past Master McArthur Holmes, who rose to the rank of Colonel in the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department.
Past Master Edward Petty, former District Deputy of the First Masonic District.
Brother Floyd Adams, former Mayor of Savannah and proud member of Pythagoras Lodge No. 11.
Brother George Wetson, longtime Superintendent of St. Philip A.M.E. Church.
Past Master Earl S. Perry, current Treasurer of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Georgia.
Past Master James C. Hudson, who served with distinction as Grand Lodge Treasurer for over five years.
Past Master P.A. Denegal, former Librarian of the Carnegie Library and former President of the Board of Trustees of Charity Hospital.
From past to present, Pythagoras Lodge No. 11 celebrates a proud legacy of leadership, service, and brotherhood. As we look to the future, we continue to honor the commitment and sacrifice of the many brothers who came before us—men who have made lasting impacts on the Lodge, the community, and the world beyond.

Prince Hall Lodge No. 28
History of Prince Hall Lodge No. 28
Prince Hall Lodge #28 F. & A.M. was organized during the year of 1883 and having a Notation of record on the original Warrant of Constitution gives us this date. The following year 1884 the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free Mason of Georgia in Grand Communication issued the following Warrant of Constitution.
To all whom it may concern:
Sent these greetings:
Know ye, that we, the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free Masons of Georgia have authorized and empowered, our trusty and well beloved brethren, Stephen Johnson, W. M., J. A.W. Stewart, S. W. and G. L. Scrugg J. W. to open and hold a Lodge designated as Prince Hall #28 under our register and Jurisdiction, at Savannah in the State of Georgia or within three miles of the same. And we do further authorize and empower the said brethren to admit, enter, pass and raise Free Masons according to the Most Ancient Custom and usages of the Craft in all ages and nations throughout the world, and not otherwise. And we do further authorize and empower the said brethren, and their successors in office to hear and determine all and singular matters and things relative to the Craft within the Jurisdiction of the said Lodge. And lastly, we do hereby authorize, empower and, direct our said trusty and well beloved brethren to install their successors in office, after being duly elected and chosen; to invest them with all the powers and dignities to their office respectfully belonging, and such succession shall in like manner from time to time, install their successors and proceed in the promises as above directed, such installation to be upon, or immediately preceding the festival of Lt. John the Evangelist, during the continuance of the said Lodge forever, provided always that the above named brethren and their successors do pay and cause to be paid due respect and strict obedience to the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free Masons of Georgia, and to the rules regulations and edits thereof; otherwise this warrant of constitution to be of no force or virtue.
Given in open Grand Lodge and under the hands of our grand officers, and the seal of our Grand Lodge at Savannah this 13th day of February 1884.
A. S. Gordon, G.M.; John Neslit, D.G.M.; John D. Campbell, G. Sec.; John C. Washington, Sr., Grand Warden; L.H. Williams, J.G.W.The membership of Prince Hall Lodge #28 at one time was of such that we thought we would have to surrender our warrant by not having enough members at times to open our Lodge. But having the name of Prince Hall and representing the first Grand Lodge in this country, and having derived its name from the first Charter issued to Negro Masons under African Lodge #459. The G. M. H.R. Batler by dispensation removed P.M. Stephen S. Ryals from Hilton Lodge #2 in order to build Prince Hall Lodge. P.M. Ryals did a good job and the membership of Prince Hall Lodge began to grow. He was master from 1909-1914.
Following P.M. Ryals was P.M. Paul R. Gray who made a bad fellow of himself by doing things unbecoming a masonic brother. This gave Prince Hall another setback. But it got another start having only seventeen members at one time and very little money in our treasury. These hardships were during the year 1914-1916. Our membership again began to grow we had as few as 14 members and have had as many as 235 members.
In 1925, during P.M. Simon Latson’s administration Prince Hall Lodge had grown to such a healthy position financially, that it decided to celebrate. And celebrate we did it was one long remembered by the masons, of Savannah. It was at this 45th anniversary that we had as our guest. In H.R. Butler, G.M. and Mr. Butler, P.M. Sol C. Johnson Grand Secretary and Athem. Also, during this anniversary Prince Hall Lodge presented to P.M. A.W. Cummings a beautiful Past Master’s Jewel.

Limerick Lodge No. 437
History of Limerick Lodge No. 437
As American citizens witnessed the terror and the efforts of World War 1, there were men living in this community and surrounding areas who felt it was essential for them to bring relief to widow and orphans who were also feeling distressed. These men would gather together and bond themselves into a brotherhood that would only be broken by death. They came from local communities in Liberty County known today as Freedom Grove, Shave Town, Trade Hill, Holmes Town, Fleming, Riceboro, Mallard, Bacon Town, McIntosh. During the days of these men, which were during the second decade of the twentieth century, they traveled by horses and on foot over pathways, trails, and roads twice monthly to discuss the needs of the community, to render service whenever their services were needed.
On June 19,1918, these dedicated men gathered together to organize what is now known as Limerick Lodge No. 437, Free and Accepted Masons. These individuals were Felix Frazier, Felix Lambright, A.H. Morrison, Isom Cole, and Sol C. Johnson of Savannah, Georgia, who served as a representative from the Grand Lodge. Felix Frazier was elected and served as the first Worshipful Master of Limerick Lodge No. 437. For many years these men continued to render service in Liberty County and the surrounding areas. On October 24, 1995, its present temple was erected and dedicated under the leadership of Reverend Abram H. Williams, who then served as Worshipful Master.
Other serving as Worshipful Master of Limerick Lodge No. 437 were Felix Lambrigth, Isom Cole, Charlie Robertson, James Grant, Luther Brown, George Williams, Harold Bacon, Willie McIver, Eddie Lee Bryant, Stephen Mullice, Herman L. Baker, John D. Lewis, Kenneth Howard, Quinton Johnson, Reginald Martin, Reginald Pierce, Ezekiel Walthour, Clinton Roberts, Dereck A. Dargan, Al Harris, Joseph Ealy, Sammy Sawyers, and Antonio Williams. Presently, Gerald Williams serves as the Worshipful Master of the Lodge.
Public Service has been at the forefront of Limerick Lodge No. 437 since its inception. This Lodge has always supported the NAACP in their efforts to bring equality and justice to the people living in this community and America. It was on January 28, 1969 that a vote was taken to contribute the sum of ten dollars ($10.00) in support of its cause and membership into the organization.
Each year Limerick Lodge donates Back to School supplies to students in the Freedman Grove and Shave Town Communities, during the Historical Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Annual Community Picnic. This event takes place the fourth Friday, in the month of August. During this picnic celebration the brothers join in the opening devotional ceremony and with games and other activities for the youth and the young at heart.
During the Christmas and Thanksgiving seasons food baskets and donations are given to the widows of deceased brothers. No matter how big or small the project, Limerick brothers are known for their support in the community wherever they are needed.
The Lodge presently sponsors the facility for Cub Pack 581 as well as assisting where needed. Limerick Lodge # 437 will also assist in reactivating Troop 581 and will assist with its adult leadership for the program. The Lodge gives annually two- $500.00 scholarships to both Liberty County High School and Bradwell Institute graduating seniors. Limerick Lodge # 437 has weathered the test of the men in this organization, Limerick Lodge continues to persevere.
Continuing the vision of our past masters, matrons, and deceased members, Limerick Lodge along with Limerick Chapter is working diligently to renovate our current hall, to offer it as a place where community events can be held.
We, the brothers of Limerick Lodge # 437 are blessed and proud to be presently led by an efficient group of officers. They are as follows:
